A Great Day for Enigin

It was said in an earlier blog on Enigin.me that “motivation is important in business.” Nothing could be more true, and sometimes it’s good to remind ourselves of achievements that we, as a company, are making in the energy saving industry.

On August 17th 2012, former Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen inaugurated an installation of 3,042 solar panels at the headquarters of top Danish insurance company, Topdanmark. Spanning over an acre, this rooftop installation is the largest in Northern Europe and can generate around 752,000 kWh – simply put, roughly equivalent to the annual power consumption of 200 households. This enables Topdanmark to reduce their carbon emissions by about 600 tonnes a year, and thanks to Eniscope technology, they have the tools to ensure they get the very best from their commitment to greener energy.

At the inauguration ceremony, also attended by EU Climate Commissioner Connie Hedegaard, Enigin Managing Director Troy Wrigley said, “it is great to see our technology playing a key role in some of the world’s leading renewable projects.” It certainly is, and it’s not surprising that companies like Topdanmark can see the benefits of Eniscope. By providing the means to measure and analyse energy generation and consumption, it gives them an invaluable insight into exactly how their energy is being used, allowing them to implement measures to maximise both savings and efficiency.

All this reaffirms to me that we are not only playing a vital role in renewable projects, but providing the platform from which to surge ahead. Talk about motivation!

Enigin Logistics – Everything in its Place

Enigin Logistics – Everything in its Place Enigin.

Being organized is all about saving time, our most precious commodity, just like energy its a limited resource and therefore oh so valuable. I have seen project managers and the like throw much time away through complex and new ‘management systems’ or ‘essential’ multi-tasking. One of the latest things I hear is that multi-tasking is old news and now its all about a the smart people that work linear. But I digress, my point simply stated is that being organized saves you so much time and hence money. For a brief period if time I had the pleasure of working in france and they had proudly printed a banner over their offices, roughly translated, “A place for everything and everything in its place” I think it spoke volumes of the work ethic their, there was no time for failed deadlines or disorganization as they cared for thousands of customers. To my mind it didn’t just mean putting your filing or papers in the correct place, but it spoke of priorities. Everything in its right place, to me is having first things first.

So, when it comes to my investment of time and money, firstly I want to invest it well and secondly anything I have invested I don’t want lost or wasted. Working here at Enigin, has really opened my eyes, a revelation if you will, to the colossal amounts of waste happening in business today, not jsut the paperclips and waste paper, but the somewhat hidden waste of energy form poor appliances and lack of energy management, In fact its quite frustrating to see, companies expend themselves dramatically to save a few dollars on staff and lunches for example, and to pay no heed to the huge amount of cash that are exiting the building because appliance are not switched off on the weekend. In my opinion the priorities are wrong at least when it comes to saving money in the right places, they need to be saving the pounds not just ‘penny smart’.

Well for fear of being too negative on a sunny morning, I really wanted to say what a breath of fresh air it is to work in an energy saving company that have taken the principle of saving to heart, not just of course through Eniscope and monitoring their energy usage in Real-time, but through having their priorities in place, everything in its right place. Putting staff where they will be most effective, using their time wisely and of course helping business to save themselves form wasting massive amount of energy with simple to install load-side products.

Simple Energy Enigin Saves

I’ve just been listening to the radio, and no surprise the issue of energy saving was in the news, this time they discussed Carbon Capture and Storage. Now although I am involved in the energy saving sector I could not understand clearly what they were talking about. Im convinced with in the same sentence they stated that CCS, carbon capture and storage technology has been achieved but also may never work. Surely its possible to make energy saving more simple! In this case even though millions of pounds are available to develop technology, a deal can’t be decided and carbon reduction doesn’t happen.

In one way I suppose energy saving is simple, the energy not used is the most ‘green’ and switching things off where possible reduces carbon in a very real way. Essential to this type of direct saving is clear and simple communication. This comes from the ground up, from advice from governments and energy organizations to the very products that measure energy usage. Unfortunately I feel that many utility companies harness this confusion to their unfair benefit, maybe like me you have had difficulty deciphering your last bill, in fact many don’t even check their usage and accept whatever the final sum on the statement is. This is understandable as most of us, when it comes to energy demand are beholden to what they deem as fair costs.

However there is a way to fight back, through getting clear information on your energy usage. This is where Eniscope can help. It can clearly display your energy usage and provide that information in dollars and cents, or pound and pennies, or the currency of your choice. But it also does much more, it’s detailed analytics pin point energy leaks, where you are wasting power and when it is happening. This empowers you to install quality load-side energy saving products such as iMEC and CUES, these products are specifically designed for appliances to make them run more ‘intelligently’ and more effectively, dramatically reducing your energy demand and lowering maintenance costs.

iMEC, Intelligent Motor Energy Controllers, can save up to 50% on electric motor costs. This is possible due to that fact that almost all motors are built to ‘worse case scenario’ specifications and need not run at ‘full power’ all the time. Constantly adjusting how they run in relationship to load and demand makes them run ‘smarter’ and much more efficiently. The same principle applies to CUES, Chilled Unit Energy Saver. This load-side product intelligently measures not just air temperature but food temperature, giving typically savings of 30%.

Elemental Energy Saving

There are so many simple, easy ways we can become energy savers. It does not need to be a fairytale!

Why not be a hero and save energy today, in your lifetime, for your family and children in their lifetime. We all need to make the effort and changes necessary to put this into action.

Why not start by replacing your light bulbs for energy efficient ones. The amount of energy this can save will also save you money. Replace any older, less energy efficient appliances. Most new appliances now come automatically energy efficient and labelled with the energy star system or another local energy rating.

How to Negotiate

CBS News business website had an interesting article last month about negotiating – an important skill for all sales people at whatever level.

We understand at Enigin that this is a skill that always needs developing and hence I would like to share the main points with Enigin Distributors and Enigin employees.

In the last post we looked at how not to negotiate, here are several recommendations to increase the potential of success:

Warmer Nights and Darker Mornings

Are you wrapping up already for the dark evenings, dark mornings and colder days? I actually enjoy this time of year. It feels cosy and comforting, wrapping up in coats and scarves, gloves and boots. Long winter walks with the family, and heart warming meals.

I love sitting by a log fire in a pub, with a lovely hot chocolate. Another wonderful thing for this time of year! A warming hot chocolate with all the trimmings, cream, marshmallows and sprinkled chocolate. And it doesn’t even take much work to do at home! Why not try a REAL hot chocolate.

THE ENIGIN YEAR VANISHES…Whoosh ……Gone!

Strange as it seems but the older you get the quicker the time seems to fly by.  Why it only seems like yesterday when we here at Enigin were discussing summer and now it’s Autumn.

This is the time of year when we should be planning for those cold winter weeks by making the most of the abundance of food that needs to be collected  and stored for the onslaught.  Blackberries, Sloe’s, other fruit  and vegetables that may still be on the tree’s or in the ground that if left will ruin.  Get it picked and either frozen for later use or pickled.  Nows the time to get the sloe gin on for Christmas.  A good tip is to freeze the sloe’s before use as this releases the pectin and makes for better gin…Hicc!!!!
